Educational Leadership Preparation Learning Community

The Education Leadership (EL) Preparation Learning Community is a group of approximately 85-90 education leaders from throughout the state of Louisiana. There are 14 universities and 3 private providers who offer masters’ degrees in Educational Leadership. Each of these program providers was invited to bring a team to Baton Rouge for continuous learning, funded by The Wallace Foundation grant.

Each team consists of the following:

  • College of Education Dean or her/his representative,
  • EL Chair,
  • EL Faculty Member,
  • A District Superintendent or her/his designee, and
  • A School Principal.

Topics that the EL Preparation Learning Community has addressed thus far are:

  • ISLCC 2008 standards and their alignment to EL program content
Sample of ISLLC Alignment Chart of University Courses
  • SREB’s Core Conditions and Indicators of Program Redesign instrument for assessing each institution’s progress in living out their redesigned EL programs
  • The NCATE Assessment for program accreditation, and
  • The Vanderbilt Assessment for Leaders in Education (VALED) – this assessment is utilized by districts in evaluating their principals, and is being piloted this spring in Rapides, Caddo, Lafayette and the RSD.

The Wallace Foundation is committed to improving educational leadership in the schools across the nation, and Louisiana is fortunate to be a recipient of a Wallace Foundation grant.
